Emergence is a generative macOS timepiece. The clock is not painted onto a background and the motion is not a prerecorded animation. The visual system is generated live and its behavior is tied to passing time.

Seconds, minutes and hours become ingredients in an evolving composition: orbital paths, orbiting bodies, particles, sine waves and changing energy states.

The result still tells time. It simply refuses to stop there.

What exactly is this thing?

Is Emergence actually a clock?

Yes. Emergence is driven by real time, but it expresses that time through a visual system rather than relying on a traditional clock face as the experience.

Is the animation just a looping movie?

No. The video above is a demonstration for the website. In the macOS app, the visual world itself is generated live in code and responds to the passage of time.

What is it for?

Emergence can function as a timepiece, an ambient desktop presence and a piece of kinetic digital art. Its purpose is not to make reading the time more efficient. It is designed to make time more noticeable.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Emergence is a native macOS experience driven by the Mac and the current time. Its core visual system does not require an internet connection to run.
